Everyone arrived just after lunch on Friday and checked into their rooms at the Red Mountain Resort. Tim (Mountain Velo) set up and provided bike maintenance while Max, Corey, and Carrie headed out to the course to set up for the lactate tests. Everyone had set times to start warming up and then to perform their lactate tests. Results of the outdoor tests were then shared with the athletes later that night and Saturday morning. Friday evening we had a nice group meal while Max and Corey presented different topics and told stories from the pro peloton. Jenny handed out sponsor swag bags to everyone and gave each sponsor a shout-out for their contributions. Many provided discounts on product, which our clients took advantage of for months to come.
After a healthy and filling breakfast on Saturday, we broke into training groups and headed out for a day of riding, instruction, and a lot of fun. All riders were fully supported on the road with 1-2 guides per group and 2 sag vehicles providing photos, water, food, and mechanic service. Saturday afternoon, most clients opted to join a private yoga class before another evening of fun and discussion led by Max and Corey.
Sunday morning, many rose early for a private pilates class before breakfast. We again divided into groups to work on hill climbs and cadence drills with specialized instruction. The athletes really enjoyed riding (and testing their performance against) former pro riders Corey Hart and Sima Tavazoie. The trip ended Sunday afternoon after the ride and everyone was feeling prepared for the season ahead.
More training camps will be scheduled soon.
