It has always been our intention to offer a cycling training service that is scientifically based, fun and effective. Given Max Testa’s background in training professional cyclists, he designs indoor programs using the same effective training modalities used by the pros. Although it is not our goal to help you become professional cyclists, we get great satisfaction in offering a parallel training alternative that fits the needs and goals of our participants.
Why indoor cycling classes?
To improve cycling fitness, it is necessary to work on both volume (miles on the bike) and intensity (intervals within power zones). Over the winter our indoor classes focus on intensity. Studies have shown that high intensity interval training – short intense efforts followed by lower intensity recovery periods, is a very effective training modality. Improvements in cardiovascular fitness, glucose metabolism, and fat burning optimization are achieved. Just two to three hours a week of high quality training can produce similar or better results than 10 hours of traditional, steady state road riding, keeping training efficient and effective.
Why use power zones for training?
In order to accurately individualize training in a group setting, we use a lactate test to find each athlete’s power zones. Of all tests that evaluate fitness, the lactate test is a true indicator in determining where your fitness level is at the time of the test. Working out in zones too hard or too easy decreases the effectiveness of training. Many athletes assume that working hard all the time will lead to better fitness (the “more is better” syndrome) overlooking the need to fully recover after an intensity training session. On the other hand, training at a level that is too easy, never stresses the body enough to create a training effect.
For best results, balance in training intensity and knowing when to add or limit the use is the key. Let the experience of Max Testa Training help you accurately achieve that balance
